Why I Started Gavin Cross, LMFT Therapy Practice in West Hollywood, CA and Online for Califoria Residents?

Before I began my therapy training, I started at a suicide hotline in college to earn some extra cash.

That's what pulled me toward specializing in anxiety relief and trauma recovery for men, work I still do today, now widened to include the couples and LGBTQ+ clients who trust me with the same kind of honesty.

Fast forward five years and thousands of calls from stressed individuals in need of peace later. I saw the wonders that trauma relief and healing from anxiety could give. I observed the impact of the relief and peace these callers gained on their ability to chase after their goals. Before my eyes, this trained support helped heal digestive issues, heart palpitations, headaches, body aches, and overall sense of self-worth.

As I moved through graduate training in psychology, one pattern kept surfacing: men rarely talk about what's actually going on. Their sex lives, their marriages, the pressure to perform at work, all of it gets carried alone.

My Professional Background

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California (LMFT #133554), based in West Hollywood and seeing clients in-person and via telehealth throughout the state of California.
I trained in clinical psychology at Fuller School of Psychology.

During my supervised internship, I trained behind a one-way mirror with licensed supervisors coaching in real time, an unusually rigorous format that sharpened how I work with anxiety, trauma, and relationship dynamics under direct clinical feedback.

I left that year with an EMDRIA-approved training completion  in EMDR therapy for trauma recovery, a Restoration Therapy Level II certification (supervised under Dr. Miyoung Yoon Hammer) for navigating complicated emotions, and training in attachment-based therapy for healing historical and relational wounds. Since 2019, I have been  treating individuals and couples in the Los Angeles and West Hollywood area.

Who I Work With

I specialize in therapy for men navigating anxiety, self-esteem, career pressure, and relationships; couples working through communication breakdowns, infidelity, or disconnection; and LGBTQ+ individuals exploring identity, confidence, and relationship dynamics outside the "standard script."

My areas of clinical focus include anxiety, self-esteem, men's issues, trauma and PTSD, family conflict, life transitions, grief, codependency, and relationship and marital issues.

My Approach to Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy helps clients reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge, reducing trauma and anxiety symptoms without requiring you to relive every detail out loud.

Couples therapy is a structured approach to untangling complicated emotions and relationship patterns, developed to help couples and individuals identify the underlying wounds driving conflict.

I don't lock every client into one method on day one. The first few sessions are how we figure out what's actually going on and which of these approaches fits together.

When I’m Not in the Office

I’m a Los Angeles guy who spends my days with a fluffy white Goldendoodle named Emma Frost (after the X-Men character).

I frequent comedy shows in and around Hollywood and enjoy a good game night at home with friends and continuing the search for L.A.’s best cocktails.
